The University of Tennessee at Martin is ranked at or near the top in several Tennessee college and university rankings issued recently by Niche.com.
The university earned an overall grade of B-plus from Niche.com, scoring an A for the campus, a B-plus for athletics, a B-plus for value, a B for academics and a B for diversity.
Niche.com ranks UT Martin as the best value among Tennessee’s public four-year universities. That ranking considered factors like the average return on the investment of college education, median earnings after graduation, postgraduation employment, student-faculty ratio and loan default rate.
UT Martin was also ranked as the best campus among Tennessee public universities, ranking 70th nationwide in that category.
Information garnered for that ranking included student surveys, a campus food grade, a campus housing grade and a safety grade.
UT Martin has the best residence halls among Tennessee’s public universities, according to the Niche.com ranking. The university ranked 85th nationwide in that category, taking into account the average housing cost, housing capacity and the student housing crime rate.
Speaking of safety, UT Martin also ranked No. 1 as the safest campus among Tennessee’s public universities. Factors in that ranking included the campus crime rate, the local crime rate, the residence hall date violence rate and alcohol- and drug-related arrest rate.

• UT Martin ranks No. 1 among Tennessee’s public universities for students of education, ranking 142nd nationwide.
• UT Martin is the best Tennessee public university for students in the criminal justice program, ranking 155th nationwide.
• UT Martin is the best public university in Tennessee for studying environmental science, ranking 165th nationwide.
• UT Martin ranks second among public universities in Tennessee and 46th nationwide among the best colleges for the agricultural sciences.
• UT Martin ranks second among Tennessee public universities in the study of public policy and social sciences.
• UT Martin ranks second among Tennessee public universities in international relations studies.
• UT Martin ranks third among Tennessee public universities in the study of music.
• UT Martin ranks third among Tennessee public universities in the field of interdisciplinary studies.
UT Martin also ranks second among Tennessee public universities in student life, ranking 123rd nationwide.
