Dr. CAMERON GRAHAM
Dr. Cameron Graham, lecturer in the Department of Behavioral Sciences, has an upcoming publication, a book chapter titled “Theorizing War” in the Oxford Handbook of Critical and Cultural Criminological Theory.
This is a co-authored chapter with fellow sociologist Dr. Ivan Shmatko, who is a Ukrainian national and current professor at Washington and Lee University. Shmatko lived in Kyiv during much of the writing process amid the ongoing war with Russia, although he has since moved to Virginia for his role at Washington and Lee. The book and its accompanying chapters are expected to be available online next month, with physical publication taking place between the fourth quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027.
The presentation is also a collaborative project with current Ph.D. candidate Patrick Clemens at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Graham and Clemens will present this at the Mid-South Sociological Association annual conference on Saturday, Oct. 17, in Huntsville, Alabama. The title of this presentation is “The Technological Intersection of the New Cold War and the Class Conflict at Home: Resource Wars, the AI Race, and Expanding Surveillance States.”
Dr. LAURA HATCH
Dr. Laura Hatch, associate professor of accounting, was featured in a Sept. 21 publication on WalletHub.com relating to budget percentages. Hatch took part in the “Ask the Experts” feature of the publication and answered questions dealing with percentage-based budgeting and the best way to allocate money for necessities, luxuries and savings.
WalletHub.com is a personal finance company that launched in August 2013. It offers free consumer tools such as its WalletLiteracy Quiz and its Financial Fitness Tool, which provides users with credit reports, scores and monitoring. WalletHub also has tools for comparing credit cards, personal loans, car insurance and bank accounts, and it has grown to be one of the best budgeting apps on the market.
