The UT Martin Math Craft Laboratory is preparing for another year of bringing local high school students to campus to explore mathematics, build connections and work alongside university faculty.
Hosted by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the Math Craft Laboratory is a mentorship program and mathematics workshop series connecting UT Martin professors with high school students from Weakley and Obion counties.
Students visit campus throughout the academic year to explore undergraduate- and graduate-level ideas in mathematics and statistics, collaborate in small groups on problems and creative challenges, and develop skills in reasoning, inquiry, teamwork and mathematical communication.
The program also provides students an opportunity to experience a university environment while building relationships with faculty and other students who share an interest in mathematics. Feedback from previous participants has emphasized the welcoming environment, friendships and increased confidence they gained through the program.
Math Craft Laboratory workshop and mentorship days will be held on the UT Martin campus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 1, Nov. 12, Feb. 4 and March 18, with lunch provided.
