Questions from UT Martin faculty and staff

QUESTION

What are some special events going on during Quad City at homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 31?

RESPONSE

A statue of beloved UT Martin mascot Captain Skyhawk and bench will be unveiled at 11 a.m. on the Boling University Center Patio. This will be followed by the traditional Skyhawk Walk at 11:15. Also, two lampposts will be dedicated following the Skyhawk Walk.

Lugar Foundry did outstanding work in designing and casting the life-size bronze Captain Skyhawk statue and bench. This company also did the Coaches Statue outside of the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center as well as the Friends Statue on the edge of the quad near Paul Meek Library and the Boling University Center.

Dr. Charley and Shannon Deal designated honorarium gifts in their honor to help bring this special project to life.

At 11:33 a.m., the N.S. Koalition of A&D will honor 55 years of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Zeta Kappa Chapter, with a dedication of the lamppost at the BAC Garden outside of Paul Meek Library.

At 12:30 p.m. , the late Dr. Danny Pirtle will have a lamppost dedicated in his memory on the quad side of Sociology Building. Pirtle was an associate professor of criminal justice.
