UT Martin students need mentors

More than 400 UT Martin students need a mentor for the UT Promise Scholarship, and the Center for Student Engagement is seeking help from faculty and staff.

“We have partnered with Mentor Collective to create a streamlined program that makes becoming a mentor easy,” said Kameron Echols, director of student leadership and campus culture.

Here is a quick rundown of the program:

  • There is a matching process for mentors and mentees where they complete a survey detailing their backgrounds, experiences and hopes for a counterpart. The Mentor Collective creates matches based on what the mentees say matters most.
  • There is a time commitment. Once the mentors and mentees are matched, the mentors will decide how they want to connect: text, email, video call or in person. Mentors are recommended to connect with their mentee at least once a month.
  • There is a program timeline, as it ends at the end of the spring 2027 semester. Mentors and mentees may stay connected after that date if they wish.

The matching survey can be found at the Mentor Collective website.

“Strong mentoring relationships provide guidance, encouragement and a sense of belonging while helping students grow personally, academically and professionally,” Echols said.
