Eight student musicians from the University of Tennessee at Martin performed during the North American Saxophone Alliance region seven conference held March 8-10 at Western Carolina University. Saxophonists Casey Stanfill, of Lexington; Nate Matthews, of Olive Branch, Mississippi; Annias Haney, of Paris; and Jeremy Jackson, of Ripley, performed alongside percussionists Gavin Kitchen, of Murfreesboro; Mary Emmons, of Selmer; Jacob Hargrove, of Memphis; and Drew Hendren, of Newbern. The ensemble presented composer Steven Snowden’s “Fast, Cheap and Out of Control,” which was commissioned for the UT Martin Department of Music in 2016. Dr. Doug Owens, associate professor of music, and Dr. Shane Jones, assistant professor of music, serve as ensemble advisers.
