Second-annual film festival expands to include Northwest Tennessee

Film shorts produced in Northwest Tennessee will be showcased during the NorWest Film Festival at 7 p.m., April 6, in the University of Tennessee at Martin’s Vanguard Little Theatre. Entry is free to the public, but donations are encouraged.

This is the second year that the UT Martin Vanguard Theatre and the Rho Gamma chapter of the Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honors Society will hold the film festival, previously called the Weakley County FilmFest. The festival, which only involved UT Martin and Weakley County in 2018, has been expanded to include Dyer, Gibson, Lake, Henry and Obion counties as well. Submitted shorts must be filmed entirely in these six counties and last four to 15 minutes. The films will be screened live during the festival.

First, second and third-place prizes will be awarded to winning filmmakers. First place will receive $100 and a plaque; second place will receive $50 and a plaque; and third place will receive $25 and a certificate.

The Vanguard Little Theatre is located in room 167 of the UT Martin Fine Arts Building. For more information about the festival, contact Kevin Shell, Vanguard Theatre director, at kshell1@utm.edu.
