Community recognizes World College Radio Day

Oct. 4 marked the annual observance of World College Radio Day. UT Martin student radio station WUTM 90.3 “The Hawk” officially celebrated the observance Oct. 5 as part of the university’s homecoming weekend. The station sponsored a tent and live broadcast in front of the Andy Holt Humanities Building during Quad City. Proclamations recognizing World College Radio Day and the station’s achievements were presented by Martin Mayor Randy Brundige and Weakley County Mayor Dale Hutcherson. WUTM has been on the air since Nov. 17, 1971, and has been honored with more than 400 awards since 2005. WUTM is the current “Best College Radio Station in the South” as designated by the Southeast Journalism Conference. Pictured with the station at Quad City and displaying the proclamations were (l-r) Katelyn Cohee, a junior from Thompson’s Station; Alex Martin, a senior from Trenton; and Daniel Mancusi, a sophomore from Martin. All are mass media and strategic communication majors with a concentration in broadcasting. Dr. Richard Robinson, professor of mass media and strategic communication, is the station’s faculty adviser.
