Four Hickman County students have received the Bill and Rosann Nunnelly Family Scholarship from the University of Tennessee at Martin for the 2021-2022 academic year. The scholarship, funded by Bill and Rosann Nunnelly, is a four-year scholarship currently open to Hickman County residents.
The four recipients are incoming students in the class of 2025.
- Spencer Tomlinson, of Lyles, is a civil engineering major.
- Carlin Cochran, of Nunnelly, is a performing arts major.
- Jackson Thigpen, of Centerville, is a dietetics major.
- William Dixon, of Centerville, is an economics major.
In addition to the four new recipients, nine UT Martin students have earned the Bill and Rosann Nunnelly Family Scholarship for another year. These students include Emma Copley, Olivia Craft, Faryn Matney, Alyssa Poff, Isaiah Puckett, Trinyti Taylor, Jacob Bybee, Elias Istre and Emmalee Matthews.
The Nunnellys announced in 2019 a $22 million bequest to UT Martin to fund scholarships where Bill earned his degree in 1970. The money was gifted to provide greater academic and financial opportunities to students from rural counties for future generations. Their gift is the largest in university history.
