David McBeth, University of Tennessee at Martin professor of art, will serve as the annual Phi Kappa Phi Muriel Tomlinson Memorial Lecture keynote speaker at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4. McBeth will present his lecture “Cuppa Humanity” via Zoom.
McBeth’s presentation will focus on how homemade objects can have a strong, positive impact on society. He has taught ceramics at UT Martin since 1992 and coordinates the annual Empty Bowls Soup Supper and Cups for the Cure every year. McBeth was also a recipient of the 2019 Harold Love Outstanding Community Service Award and the 2020 Cunningham Outstanding Teacher/Scholar Award.
‘It is a huge honor to be asked to give Phi Kappa Phi’s Muriel Tomlinson Lecture. I certainly appreciate the opportunity to share my thoughts on the importance of handmade pots in our lives,” said McBeth.
Phi Kappa Phi is a national honor society whose mission is to recognize and encourage superior scholarship and integrity in all academic disciplines. Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 127 was founded on the UT Martin campus in 1971 and hosts the Muriel Tomlinson Memorial Lecture each spring.
