Fall math colloquium is underway

The weekly Fall 2026 Mathematics and Statistics Colloquium Series began Aug. 31. The series is held from 3 to 4 p.m. every Monday in Room 310 of the Latimer-Smith Engineering and Science Building.

The series runs through Nov. 23 – with no programs scheduled for Sept. 7 and Oct. 12 – and features a lineup of speakers from across the country, covering topics selected to spark curiosity, from artificial intelligence and data in society to the shape of space, patterns in nature, career pathways and more.

These weekly programs are open to the public. Students, faculty and staff from all disciplines are welcome, and no mathematics background is required to enjoy and learn from these conversations. Light refreshments will be available.

The series’ first speaker was John Bush, lecturer in the UT Martin Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The speakers at the next scheduled program, Monday, Sept. 14, will be Dr. Jason DeVito, professor of mathematics; Dr. Shalmali Bandyopadhyay, assistant professor of mathematics; and Dr. Ezra Nance, lecturer of mathematics, also of the UT Martin Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
