Empty Bowls event set for Oct. 11 at Martin Public Library Stage

This year’s 22nd Empty Bowls fundraiser will be held from 8 to 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Martin Public Library Stage. All proceeds raised by the University of Tennessee at Martin Empty Bowls chapter will support Weakley County’s WE CARE Ministries local food pantry.

Empty Bowls is a regional project based on the larger movement called the Empty Bowls Project. UT Martin’s chapter of Empty Bowls was founded in 2003 by UT Martin professor emeritus and potter David McBeth, with the goal of combatting food insecurities in Martin.

UT Martin students and Jason Woolery, assistant professor of art and pottery, have hand-crafted hundreds of bowls in the university ceramics studio. The bowls will be available for purchase starting at $15 donations. The public is invited to view and purchase these handmade bowls at the Martin Public Library the day of the event.

The Martin Empty Bowls event will coincide with the Fall Harvest Festival of the Martin’s Farmer’s Market, which features local vendors and live music. Attendees of the Empty Bowls event will also be supporting local vendors as well as the local food pantry.

Empty Bowls is also part of the 2025 UT Martin Homecoming week celebration during the week of Oct. 6.
