High school students, transfer students and others wanting to apply to the University of Tennessee at Martin will have the opportunity to do so without having to pay the $30 application fee.
Free Application Week will be held Sept. 15-19, providing a free opportunity for students to get a jump-start on enrolling, seeking financial aid, applying for housing and other student needs.
Mykaela Waterfield, director of enrollment communications and operations, said applying to UT Martin during Free Application Week is easy to do.
“They submit their application, and we waive the application fee on the back end,” she said. “They don’t have to pay when they submit; they don’t have to have a code. We know that students will apply to many different institutions, so we want to make that process as easy as possible.”
Waterfield said students won’t have to submit their transcripts or test scores at that time; those can be sent later.
She added that Free Application Week is for high school students, transfer students and students who attended UT Martin in the past and wanted to return after taking time off.
To apply to UT Martin, potential students should go to www.utm.edu/apply and click on the button that applies to them: first-year student, transfer student, international student or returning student. The student would then complete the application and submit it.
The Tennessee Higher Education Commission designated the month of September as Tennessee College Application and Exploration Month, encouraging high school students and others to consider the colleges and universities they may want to attend.
“It’s become very popular,” Waterfield said. “I think most high school students know in September, there’s likely going to be an institution that’s going to waive the application fee.”
Students taking dual-enrollment courses through UT Martin or who participated in one of the two Tennessee Governor’s Schools at the university will have their application fees waived, regardless of when they apply.
