Four students and four graduates from the University of Tennessee at Martin will compete in the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Scholarship Pageant at 8 p.m., June 19, at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson. Preliminary competitions began June 16 and will run through June 18. The entire competition will be broadcast live on EPlusTV6 and eplustv6.com at 8 p.m. each evening.
Sable Estes, a 2019 UT Martin alumna from Trenton, graduated with a degree in family and consumer sciences. She is using her platform to promote the “Carl Perkins Center S.A.B.L.E.” Estes will be competing as Miss West Tennessee Volunteer, a title based in Crockett County.
Amanda Mayo, a 2020 UT Martin alumna from Lawrenceville, Georgia, graduated with a degree in geology. She will compete as Miss Shelby County Volunteer and is using her platform to support “Stand for STEM,” an initiative to promote earth science in the classroom.
Morgan Martin, a 2019 UT Martin alumna from Springville, is a third-year student at Union University College of Pharmacy. She graduated UT Martin with a degree in health and human performance and is using her platform to promote “Pharmacy 101.” Martin will compete as Miss Northwest Tennessee Volunteer, a title based in Obion County.
Rachael Friedrich, a 2019 UT Martin alumna from Jackson, graduated with a degree in agriculture. She will compete as Miss Jackson Volunteer. Friedrich’s platform promotes “Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Cancer That’s Not So Small.”
Karenna Rainey, a freshman biology major from Adamsville, will compete as Miss TriStar Volunteer, a title based in Crockett County. Rainey’s platform promotes “Project Handbags for Homeless.”
Carsyn Hughes, a freshman fashion merchandising and design major from Franklin, will compete as Miss Paris Volunteer. She is using her platform to support “Every Girl Counts,” a non-profit that seeks to transform the lives of impoverished girls and women around the world.
Kailey Duffy, a junior social work major from Holladay, will compete as Miss UT Martin Volunteer. Duffy’s platform promotes “U Fit N” in support of personal fitness and wellness.
Caleigh Jo Erwin, a junior fashion merchandising and family and consumer sciences education major from Dyersburg, will compete as Miss Springtime Volunteer, a title based in Gibson County. Her platform promotes “Living with Lupus.”
The winner of the Miss Tennessee Volunteer title will work as Gov. Bill Lee’s official representative for character education and spend the next year traveling the state to visit with schoolchildren and community members on his behalf. The winner will go on to compete for the title of Miss Volunteer America on May 4-7, 2022.
