The University of Tennessee at Martin Student Government Association is hosting its annual Diversity Week, Nov. 9 – 13, to promote and celebrate diversity on campus.
The SGA Multicultural Affairs Committee has planned student activities and panels throughout the week to bring awareness to the diverse campus.
While many events were organized specifically for UT Martin students, the committee will host three panels and a keynote speaker for public attendance. All panels will be held via Zoom and can be accessed with the password “diversity.”
- Tuesday, Nov. 10: Gender and Sexual Identities, 6 p.m., https://tennessee.zoom.us/j/97076070801;
- Wednesday, Nov. 11: Dr. Mark McCloud, Cultural Appreciation vs. Cultural Appropriation, keynote, 6 p.m., https://tennessee.zoom.us/j/96347036942. McCloud currently serves as the UT Martin interim chief diversity and inclusion officer.
- Thursday, Nov. 12: Religious Diversity, 6 p.m., https://tennessee.zoom.us/j/93265505424;

“This programming is important because it highlights the many diverse groups we have on campus and hopefully creates some new connections between students that allows them to learn about each other,” said John Abel, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs. “This year’s Multicultural Affairs Committee had the daunting task of planning a week of events within COVID restrictions, and I think they have done a great job.”
The SGA Multicultural Affairs Committee, per the UT Martin SGA constitution, is responsible for hosting a Diversity Week each year.
