The University of Tennessee at Martin will host its fifth-annual ‘I Heart UTM’ week April 22-26 to celebrate Skyhawk pride and community support. Events throughout the week will feature prizes, free food and opportunities to thank alumni and supporters who contributed during Captain’s Challenge, hosted April 3.
Monday is “Philanthropy Day” and begins with Donuts for Donors from 8:30-11 a.m. outside the Boling University Center. Anyone who comes to write a thank-you card for Captain’s Challenge donors will be able to partake in donuts and enter giveaways for prizes. The annual Mike Munkel Barbeque will be that evening from 4:30-6:30 p.m. next to Pacer Pond, and Captain’s Pantry will conduct a canned food drive during the event to benefit students with food insecurities.
Tuesday is “Thankful Tuesday” and features the opportunity for students to thank a faculty or staff member for the role they have played in the student’s educational experience from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. outside the Boling University Center. A crawfish and shrimp boil will begin that evening at 5 p.m. between University Village Phase I and Phase II. The event is sponsored by the UT Martin Office of Housing and will feature music by DJ Narleyy.
Wednesday is “Hump Day” and begins with “Coffee with Carver” from 8-9 a.m. in the Boling University Welcome Center. The afternoon brings back the classic camel ride and petting zoo from noon-3 p.m. in the university quadrangle as well as Carver’s Corner, where lawn games and Chick-Fil-A drinks will be available in the quad during the same timeframe.
Thursday is “Senior Day” beginning with the senior drive-thru, during which seniors planning to graduate in both May and December can pick up blueberry muffins and Orange Crush sodas from 9 a.m.-noon at the Dunagan Alumni Center. The traditional senior walk – a congratulatory parade through the quad where faculty, staff and friends cheer on the graduating class – will begin at 3 p.m. Comedian Alex Bobbitt will perform at 9 p.m. in Watkins Auditorium.
The week ends with “Community Day” on Friday, where community members are encouraged to wear their “I Heart UTM” T-shirts and display UT Martin or Skyhawk items in their stores and businesses. Many area businesses will also feature Skyhawk Specials on this day.
