Department of Music to host cymbal-testing masterclass, ensemble concerts Oct. 23-25

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Music will host campus performances and tour Middle Tennessee during Oct. 23-25. Recitals and guest artist events are open to the public.

On Oct. 23, the UT Martin Department of Music will take the “UTM Showcase Tour” to East Robertson High School in Cross Plains and Stewarts Creek High School in Smyrna. The tour, featuring both student and faculty members, will involve a 45-minute performance by various UT Martin music groups including the wind ensemble, New Pacer Singers, percussion ensemble, jazz band and flute choir.

The department will bring Keith Aleo, director of education and orchestral activities at the Zildjian Co., to the UT Martin main campus Oct. 24 as part of their guest artist series. Aleo will hold a cymbal-testing masterclass from 5-7 p.m. in room 118 of the Fine Arts Building. The session will focus on the history of the Zildjian Co. as well as provide hands-on demonstrations and instruction on the use of drums and cymbals. Attendants will have the opportunity to purchase cymbals at a discounted rate through Amro Music.

The music department will also host guest artist Dr. Todd French, assistant professor of tuba at Murray State University, on Oct. 24. French will perform a tuba recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Blankenship Recital Hall of the Fine Arts Building.

The UT Martin Small Jazz Group will hold a concert at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 25, also in the Blankenship Recital Hall.
